My 50th Birthday Surprise Party & GIVEAWAY!

You might be scratching your head at this moment. Perhaps I can help... Yes, I am turning 50 on January 29th. Yes, I am throwing my own surprise party. Yes, I am hosting a GIVEAWAY. No, I have not lost my marbles. (I still have 2...) You see, unlike this little girl in the picture, I don't want to keep the goodies all to myself. Hence, I am hosting an online party with a Giveaway, and YOU will be posting the surprises!

First of all, there will be 2 prizes! Abby Kerr of Lettres from the Blissful, will be launching her new online shop, The Blissful, toward the end of February 2008. Abby is already the owner of a charming Canton, Ohio treasure trove called The Blissful, which offers an array of "French-Inspired Finds & Furnishings". I will be giving away a $25.00 GIFT CARD that can be used by phoning your order directly to Abby once the online shop is operative. If long distance charges are an issue, she might be able to handle the card-code and order via email. The second prize will be a $15.00 gift card to St. Arbucks (Starbucks). Entry guidelines are at the end of this post.

Let's peek into Abby's store:

  1. Karen June! So nice to see your face :) You don't look a day over 25!!! (Do I get extra points for that?) Brock is a cutie and I've got a wee boy to match him exactly!
So nice of you to give away the shop for your celebration!!!

  2. I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

I will have to think about how to do a post for you.

  4. I love it that you are surprising your self!! Isn't 50 going to be a fun year??? I'm hitting it too, and posted this today on my blog:

Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old (Kafka)

It was on a gift I received today and I decided to keep it as a motto for my 50th birthday.

Happy birthday to you, too! I added a note about your surprise party in my post.

  5. You know you are aging gracefully when you are standing in line at a resturant to eat and they give your husband the senior discount and complitment him on marring a younger woman.(We are both seniors) LOL

  6. I think you look great! Your little boy is very cuuuute too.
Turning 50....I only have a few more years to go and I am there as well. I think having a party for yourself is a GRAND ideal. I hope I can remember to do that! HA! Here is a funny quote I came across regarding turning "50"...
"Maybe it's true that life begins at 50... but everything else starts to wear out, fall out, or spread out."
    - Phyllis Diller
I'm sort of feeling that way already.
Happy Birthday wishes from me and....Be blessed!

  9. Beautiful Karen! Turning 50, well that was almost four years ago for me, but I tell you I have been having the time of my life!! I like this age, I must admit I cannot run faster than a speeding bullet, and cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound! But I can hear them all shout aloud, who is that fifty woman who walks as though on a cloud! Her face is of beauty, her style is of grace...hail to the fifty woman as she gently takes her place!

    An original by me!!

    Smiles...

  17. Hi, KJ! What a great photo of you & your son & what a fun thing to host your own 50th birthday party. Mine was last year & it wasn't all that exciting, although several of my friends remembered & honored me, so it was nice. You look great, BTW, so you must be doing something right. I'm sure having a baby in your 40's will do that for ya! LOL

OK, for aging..."you're as young as you feel", well, ok...maybe not, somedays I feel about 80, LOL. Really the best thing I can suggest to anyone to slow the clock down is exercise. I have been faithfully working out for 1/2 my life now & it truly has slowed down the process somewhat. My friends that do not exercise have picked up the lbs. & thankfully, I have not. So, here's to 50 more years of working out!

    xo,
    Rhoda

  18. Oh, here's one I gave to my sister when she turned 50 (she's 2 years older than me). Gave her this big ole' sucker that said:

    50 Sucks!

I had to laugh at that one & she actually did too!

    Rhoda

    P.S. Debra, great poem, girl!

  22. To turn fifty is a blessing
    and not a curse
    I'm turning 64...isn't that
    so much worse?

Not really...I love this age of retirement and enjoying each minute. One thing I have discovered that makes my day is reading those great blogs. There are so many creative and talented gals out there who are willing to share their lives. I feel I have a whole lot of internet friends.
    Happy birthday!

  23. Hello Karen,
Just passing through, from another blogger?? I am visiting again as I decided to write you a poem about age. Birthday Blessings to you soon for your 50th! I am a bit newer, since end of December. Still working things out, and enjoying meeting others!

In my youth I did not ponder,
    what the ancients always knew,
Living in the moment, never caring..not a clue.

I had not experienced the wisdom
    that a longer life produced,
I was young, and oh so foolish
yes, when I was in my youth.

    Now I am getting older
    and relaxing in my style,
    feeling a bit more confident
    even, accepting of my smile.

    Age is just a number,
    that my mind can't comprehend
It tries to close your dreams
    pretending you're at the end.

But I know of an aspiring artist
of whom age did not deter
She became a well-known painter in her 80's
in her older years, she never swerved.

So, when there's a whisper in my ear....
"your life's escaping and dreams, too late",
I think of all the others
who would give up, or sit and wait.

And, while I am treading through the years
and glimpse all the things that I was missing,
I bow my head and utter thanks
    and focus...on my blessings.

    Hugs & Blessings
    Carol

  24. Ah!...50! That would 13 years ago for me. I began to get desperate when I turned 60 and I wrote this for myself. Feel free to either bid or jump in there and put something up for bid yourself!

    ~eBay Search for Body Parts~

I’m putting up for bid some parts that I no longer need.
I have parts from head to toe - make an offer please.
Search for what you want. This could be your day!
You know you can find most anything on dot com eBay.

Up for bid first I offer this gray in my hair.
It once was glorious red - it’s true, I do declare!
You may also find use for these bags under my eyes.
They are considered antiques now - I wouldn’t lie!

Type in “turkey neck” and what will come up?
Why it’s another of my parts that you can ‘win’ with a little luck.
For "Saggin’ and Draggin'" could you find a use?
I am a serious seller - this is no ruse!

    A carpel-tunnel hand and a tennis elbow.
This stuff should go fast - don't be slow!
Short little fingers with tightened up joints...
I aim to please - I will not disappoint!

    Let’s move this merchandise!
With words I am trying to entice.
Look at this waist - it’s enough for two.
That’s a bargain. Yes, that is true!

Bursitis comes with this vintage right hip.
It once was used in a hop and a skip.
Here’s two stiff creaky old knees
Buy one now - the other is FREE!

Make your bid on a set of achy swollen ankles.
They have never been confined with manacles.
They come attached to two bone-spurred feet
Of which I am currently trying to delete.

    Bid now! Don’t delay!
No photo shown - don’t want to scare bidders away!
Two minutes left to bid on these body parts so splendid…

    OOPS! SORRY! BIDDING HAS ENDED!

  26. You will enjoy 50 - I remember it well! This year I can't believe I will turn 65! I still feel 50, perhaps even 45 - whatever age we are doesn't matter when one considers the alternative!!

I say ~ "You are as young as you feel".

The secret is taking care of your health, physical and emotional. Enjoy what life offers......and that adorable, handsome young man in your life will always keep you young at heart!

Enjoy the remainder of 49 - going, going, almost gone!

  30. OH, you are such a sweet dear for having a giveaway and look at you at 50! What a great surprise party. You are gorgeous and your son is adorable. When I was younger I couldn't wait to be 30 because this was the age I thought a woman could really be glamorous. 30 came and went and I think it skipped my by, now when I see pics of people like you. I think 50 is the new glam age!

  31. Kj,
Here are two quotations I like about aging:

"We turn not older with years, but newer every day."
    Emily Dickinson

"Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter."
    Mark Twain

Wishing you all good things as you prepare for your birthday!! What a wonderful giveaway!!!!

  32. This is a quote that I gave to my husband when he turned 50 a few years ago, then he gave it back to me when I hit the same milestone...

    Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
The last of life, for which the first was made:
Our times are in His hand Who saith,
    "A whole I planned,
    Youth shows but half;
trust God: see all, not be afraid!"

Hope you get presents, and some bling
    Enjoy 50,have fun,fun,fun, it's only a year to 51

  36. Aging gracefully--hmmmm,,,I thought I was doing ok--I'll be 50 in July--things were cruisin along just fine--then 3 weeks ago tonight I fell down the stairs-resulting in an ambulance ride and surgery--I can't walk or drive for at least 3 more weeks---but I have a lovely pink cast.a sporty wheelchair, a walker with a nice bag on front--because you always need your cellphone in reach and a potty chair-'cause it is elevated and has handles--My wonderful husband asked me last night if I wanted a clapper--for the lights--None of this is aging gracefully-but I have learned that I must exercise and get very healthy --because if I can prevent it I do not care to spend anymore of my life with all of these "tools"...Please take care of yourself..
    Happy Birthday,

  39. KJ’s Special Day
    By Becky K.

With a passion for the arts
KJ rules with best of hearts
Caring for the ones around her
With tender love and a soft whisper.

KJ loves to sing and dance
Her abilities didn’t come by chance
She was blessed by One who knows
Her well, and that talent really shows.

There’s a big day coming soon
We will sing a birthday tune.
For one who’s been here fifty years
    Blessing, sharing, wiping tears.

On this earth, I may never meet
This talented lady with dancing feet
But up in Heaven we’ll have time
To share some celestial verse in rhyme.

I’m thankful for this bloggy friend
And that her message she did send
To those of us who cared to look
And are watching for that coming book!

    Happy Birthday KJ!!!!

    KJ,
Thanks for stopping by! I tried to leave a comment on your 50th birthday post but Blogger was acting up and told me that I had made a "duplicate action error". Huh! Anyway, Happy Birthday to you! I'll be 50 in two years and I hope I will be as graceful about it. I had already decided I would be kicking and screaming and having a full out tantrum about it. I think however I might try doing it your way instead. Oscar Wilde said, "One should never trust a woman who tells one her real age. A woman who would tell one that, would tell one anything." I'm pretty sure he was wrong! LOL

  56. Hi KJ,
    Here's a poem I wrote for you:

There's an art to aging gracefully,
It takes so little to do it!
Just gather the joyfulness of youth,
    Remember it and renew it.

Then add the wisdom of the years,
And a dash of faith and love,
    And sprinkle humor over all
The things you think most of.

And, KJ, remember that 50 is sweet -
"the new forty" is what they say -
So here's wishing you all fabulous things
    And a very wonderful day!!!

    Happy Birthday!!
