Spiritual Seeds

We often take a narrow view of the Bible when it pertains to giving. For instance, the following Scripture is often used to encourage the giving of tithes and offerings, and to create the expectancy of a return. This is completely valid. After all, we cannot out give God and He is bound by His Word. However, giving encompasses the sum of ourselves. Basically, whatever we give out — we get back — good or bad. I enjoyed seeing this well known verse laid out in 3 versions of the Bible. I hope you do, too.

Luke 6:38 (New King James Version)  Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Luke 6:38 (Amplified Bible)  Give, and [gifts] will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will they pour into [the pouch formed by] the bosom [of your robe and used as a bag]. For with the measure you deal out [with the measure you use when you confer benefits on others], it will be measured back to you.

Luke 6:37-38 (The Message)  Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don't condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you'll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you'll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.

  1. I love the concept of giving away one's life. It was freely given to us without the expectation of a return. Wouldn't it be great if we could all do the same?

  2. KJ - Like you new music very much.
Heard an excellent message this AM on Luke 12:13-34 "Barn" mentality is storing up extra for yourself. "Purse" mentality is giving away the extra.
